 Welcome to Holz Book Nook

Hi, I’m Holly, and welcome to Holz Book Nook—a cozy little corner of the internet where I share my thoughts, feelings, and reflections as an avid reader. Books have always been a big part of my life, and this space is where I explore the stories that capture my heart, spark my imagination, and sometimes even help me grow. My life has been a lot of ups and downs, mostly downs in the last few years and picking up a book again after a few years without them has been a turning point in reclaiming myself. My life is shared with my spaniel, a couple of ponies and three sheet. I also love writing and spend plenty of time writing my own stories alongside a very dear freind in the states, in the form of RP plots.

While I love reading all sorts of fiction, I’ve recently fallen headfirst into fantasy romance and dark romance—and they’ve quickly become my favorite genres. There’s something about the rich, immersive worlds, the emotional intensity, and the way these stories explore the darker, messier parts of love and life that draws me in completely. But don’t worry—I still enjoy dipping into a wide variety of fiction, from contemporary stories to thrillers and beyond.

Holz Book Nook isn’t just about reviews, its a space for me to share my views, and for you to share yours too. Reading has become a healing activity for me after some really crappy years. This is a place to reflect on characters who inspire us, worlds that transport us, and the emotions that stories make us feel. Whether I’m sharing my excitement for a newly discovered gem, unpacking the growth of a favorite character, or reflecting on how a book helped me process my own feelings, this nook is a space for honesty, passion, and all the little joys that come from reading. I started a Booktok account aswell so I will try and tie this in with that so that theres always something going on. If you want to have a nosy at that my handle is @holz.book.nook.

So pour yourself a cup of tea, curl up in your favorite reading spot, and join me as we explore books and life together. Whether it’s heartbreak, adventure, magic, or romance, I hope I can provice a place to celebrate the stories that stay with us long after the last page.

Welcome to the nook—I’m so glad you’re here.

The Empyrean series - Still rocking in a corner

The Empyrean series by Rebecca Yarros isn’t just a story—it’s a mirror, a companion, and at times, a challenge to my own understanding of resilience and love. From the first page, I was pulled into a world of danger, beauty, and heartbreak, but what hit me most was how much I saw myself reflected in Violet. Violet’s struggle with EDS (Or what I perceived to be EDS at any rate) —her chronic pain, her limitations, her determination to keep going despite a body that sometimes feels like it’s betraying her—resonated so deeply with me. Living with fibromyalgia, I know that daily battle: the ache, the exhaustion, the frustration of wanting to do more than your body allows. Violet’s courage, her refusal to let her condition define her, and the way she keeps moving forward even when it hurts—it gave me hope. It reminded me that I am not less because of pain, that my worth is not dictated by what my body can or can’t do, and that persistence itself is a kind of victory. And yes, it also...

Payday..... new book day!

Well I started off today feeling utterly terrible, but it is payday, which means I did finally get to order the last crescent city book, which I can now take off my wishlist. Cannot wait for that to arrive!! I'm now torn with whether to read it immediately... or... whether to wait and read when the moon hatched, and take the big book away with me when I head for cornwall in a couple of weeks. I've got the kindle loaded up with some Elsie Silver books for my break, but I know I will read those in one sitting each.  My health has been giving me a battering over the last few days, but with the long weekend coming up I am hoping to be super productive, get on top of all of my jobs and outstanding tasks and get some solid reading done and content made. I've got a few on my TBR shelf at the moment, and I am trying my best to be sensible and not buy any more until  I have read a few... I'm trying at least. Still I now have an ever growing list that I am desperate to read.... ...
